Arizona Biltmore

HOTELS, TRAVEL |

Located in Phoenix, AZ, the Arizona Biltmore was crowned “The Jewel of the Desert” in 1929. It continues to live up to it’s title to this day.

The molded concrete block design would initially lead one to believe it was one of Frank Lloyd Wright’s creations, however it was actually designed by Albert Chase McArthur. Interestingly, McArthur did study under Wright, which would explain the strong Wright aesthetic. There has been a lot of confusion and controversy between Wright and McArthur over the design credit (Wright actually consulted on some of the construction) and the hotel has had it’s fair share of ups and downs over the decades. All of that, coupled with being a favorite hot-spot for Hollywood celebrities all add to the glamour and rich history of this incredible hotel.

One of the first things we noticed upon arrival is just how massive the grounds are. The lobby alone is pretty breathtaking, with the art-deco integrated ceiling lights and expansive hallway. The hotel has 740 rooms, 78 villas, 8 swimming pools, 7 tennis courts, a full service spa, salon, and fitness center, and 5 restaurants all located within the property. With so many amenities, the Arizona Biltmore is ideal for conferences. We recommend contacting the hotel beforehand to see what activities are taking place if larger crowds are of concern.

The newest addition to the Arizona Biltmore is the “Ocatilla” wing. It’s kind of like their mini “boutique hotel” within the hotel. It also has its own concierge and lounge.

The Signature restaurant at the Arizona Biltmore is Wrights. They offer “fresh, local ingredients that are hearty, yet simply elegant.” The excellent food and service underneath the beautiful pendant lighting and large glass windows added to fine dining experience. Other eating options on the grounds include Frank & Alberts, the more casual deli-style The Cafe, and the poolside Cabana Club. (Did we mention they have 8 pools?… and one of them has a 92 foot water slide and swim-up bar!)
